Berries and Baking

If there is anything I love more than playing with my littles, its baking and eating with them!  No matter the season, we love to bake — muffins, cookies, pizza… you name it.  Luckily, summer is finally here which means one very important thing:  there is a wide variety of fruit that is in season.  And the more fruit that is in season, the more options available for baking!

We recently took a trip to Linvilla Orchards to pick some berries.  (Side note: That place is amazing!) We enjoyed a hayride and picked a ton of ripe, juicy, delicious strawberries.
LinvillaStrawberries1Now that the majority of them survived the ride home without being secretly devoured by my littles, we get to find something to do with them.  …Okay, let’s be honest: We’re going to bake muffins with them, of course!

I have a FAVORITE recipe for Bakery Style Strawberry Muffins. I usually keep this top secret, but I’ve decided to share it with you today. These muffins are moist, delicious, and not too sweet.  Rather than adding a ton of sugar, you experience the natural sweetness of the berries.  The optional crumb topping is an added bonus.  A perfect summer treat!

If you aren’t into strawberries, fear not!  Blueberries are also available for harvest at Linvilla and most other berry patches this season.  And of course, I have a favorite recipe for baking Blueberry Oat Muffins too. This recipe is deliciously healthy, so I don’t feel guilty letting my littles have an extra one at snack time. Check it out here.

Whether you’re a baking fanatic or just looking for a fresh and juicy treat, I hope you’ll take advantage of all the wonderful fruit that is in season.  Looking for more yummy baking recipes?  Check out some of my favorites here!    Looking for a healthy snack ideas for your littles?  I got that covered too: Toddler Treats
